I Am the Messenger by Markus Zusak

An ace of diamonds with 3 addresses and 3 times written on it is mailed to Ed’s house.  No instructions, no map, no nothing.  Curiosity quickly gets the better of Ed and he visits the first address at the time given.  What he sees there spurs him into action.  Not to mention the three other aces he receives.
